Is the role of the Matriarch set to erode over time?
“Matriarch; a woman who is the head of a family or tribe, an older woman who is powerful within a family or organisation.”
I’ve led a few Funerals just recently where the person who’s died has been described as a Matriarch – the hub of the family, keeping it all together and presiding over all that it does.
It’s sad but I have an overwhelming sense that it’s a description that will wane over time. As society continues to change and as families become more extended and fragmented, then the central hub of family life will have less focus. I wonder if eulogies that get written in 20 or 30 years time, will ever touch upon the role of the much loved Matriarch – I somehow doubt it.
